Not ready for black & white

Yesterday I wanted to photograph some beautiful black and white compositions in the wood. It was the first day of my vacation.

But the scenery did not seem to be ready for black & white. Or was it me?

In fact I tried to find a composition similar to those earlier this year:

Braving the wheather and the cold wind – why is it always in my face, btw? – I was happy when I finally reached the sheltering wood. Although almost mid October deep darks and greens still dominated the spectrum, all the more since it started raining. Don’t worry, I love the outdoors whatever the weather.

Fine greens and subtle green shadows

I set my camera to black & white, B&W (TE) to emulate the monochrome (slightly greenish) black & white effect and to help visualizing my composition, but I didn’t like the effect. By converting the image to black & white I regretted the fine greens and subtle dark green shadows.

Here is the black & white (TE) image. Which do you like more?

As a conclusion I am still happy with the results albeit I explicitly wanted to shoot in black & white. Maybe it is a matter of seeing or a matter of taste – or I was not ready for the decisive moment and the monochrome tones. Maybe another time? That’s why I keep carrying my camera always with me.

  1. Really nice.
I like the picture with colours. it isn’t so colorious, it is modestly but just like that are the foggy autumn days for me. Also the second picture, in color is really beautiful, this is alive! The b/w slightly green is nothing for me.
The b/w pictures from the other post, are beautiful.
