About 12 years ago near Nîmes (F) I photographed the asphalted cobblestone road and two beautiful manhole covers brightly shining in the backlit. I was fascinated by the strong contrasts and deep shadows. In my eyes it was one of my favourite images of all our trip.
But I was alone with my opinion. My wife Arlette called it the “Sushi manhole covers”. What do manhole covers and Sushi have in common?
Unfortunately the original film negative has never been printed – the image is still eagerly waiting for it’s rediscovery in better times.

Still blown away by the breathtaking scenery and happy with this photograph I headed back to the campsite on the small plain right above the uppermost hairpin bend of the Tremola. I was glad to have set up my tent earlier this afternoon – btw: can you spot it? – and the idea of cuddling into my comfortable down sleeping bag made me smile.
