Many modern contemporary fine art street photographs and cityscape photographs are characterized by strong contrasts between the deepest shadows and the brightest highlights – which makes them very attractive in common. Pure black shadows and pure white highlights predominate – in between there is only a small range of greytones; contrasts are high.
Caution. This blog post could be highly exciting and interesting or boring dull.
This blog post is about highlights and shadows, brights and darks, pure whites and pure blacks, smooth and strong contrasts and tons of tones. For some people this post will be highly exciting and interesting, for some it will be as boring and dull as ever possible.

Lake Másvatn, view to the North
October-8 2017, on our way from Akureyri to the East of Iceland we passed the calm lake of Másvatn, a few miles before the geothermals of Mývatn. Attracted by the silence of the area and the untouched surface of the water I decided to take some photographs of the calm water.
I am an old black & white lover.
No – in fact that’s not strictly correct – beside the pure blacks and whites I even care more about the subtle tones in between – at least as much if not more than for the brightest whites and the darkest blacks. All those tones are my personal 100 shades of grey.
