The journey by bus and train from Ehrendingen, where I live, to Lausanne (Switzerland) takes more than 2.5 hours - and another 2.5 hours back - but PHOTO ELYSÉE's magnificent exhibition ‘Daido Moriyama - a retrospective’ is well worth it.
When will you have the chance to see Daido Moriyama's work again?
Daido Moriyama
STRAY DOG, Misawa, Aomori, 1971
Moriyama's most famous image was taken in Misawa, a city in Aomori Prefecture that was bombed
during World War II and was later the site of a US Military base. Moriyama traveled to Misawa
while shooting for the Searching Journeys series in Asahi Camera magazine. The
photo of a stray dog, taken in the morning near the hotel where he was staying, turned over time
into a metaphorical self-portrait of the wandering photographer. It reappeared in the book A
Hunter (1972) and, in different versions
with the dog facing different directions, in many other books and on prints, T-shirts, and
wallpaper.

I was deeply impressed and overwhelmed by Daido Moriyama's work and touched by his impressive
story.
In total, I spent more than 2.5 hours in the exhibition.

Outside the PHOTO ELYSÉE, I took some photos of the PHOTO ELYSÉE itself and of the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne (MCBA) - and finally of the Lausanne train station.
